Printer Cartridges on Amazon

We've had a couple of good posts in the past about using Amazon to its full potential. I just discovered yet another product—one crucial to us students—that's significantly cheaper from the online retail beast: ink cartridges for our printer. They even include Amazon's "free super shipping." They're still outrageously expensive but much less so than at Walmart.  I can't say whether that holds true for every brand and model of printer, but I'm guessing it's probably often the case. It's worth checking.

  1. Another option is to invest in a printer with a low ink cost. I am doing a little selfish advertising here, but we bought a Lexmark printer earlier last year. The model has $5 black ink cartridges. We calculated that with the purchase of 12 cartridges the printer would pay for itself. If you do a lot of B & W printing, this can be a great investment. We have yet to replace the color cartridges (which is also nice because they are separate so if you run out of magenta you don't have to throw down for an entire new cartridge) and have replaced the black ink twice--we do a LOT of printing because I work from home. Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there.

  2. That's actually a very helpful comment. We've considered investing in a laser printer, which I think is cheaper in the long run, but a big investment up front, especially when you're used to getting the printer for free when you buy a computer. I haven't looked into it much, but maybe we need to consider the Lexmark...
